We just finished up week 6 (or more like... 5 and 1/2 because of the holiday) of my bootcamp course and honestly, my head is spinning. WHY is time passing by so quickly!?

A few fun things that have been happening:

  • I feel like I've gotten much better at doing interviews, so it's awesome to see improvement

  • We had our first group project and our presentation went really well

  • Speaking of the group presentation, we had to present on my birthday and COINCIDENTALLY we were randomly chosen to go first

  • I attended my first networking event EVER, and I didn't die haha

  • I've taken a few of my classmate's headshots so they can update their LinkedIn profiles, and that's been fun (sidenote: I might see if I can get their permission to share a few here, so stay tuned)

<< Here's a GIF of my group doing a Design Studio to start off the sketching process for our project. We also did a Design Studio exercise as a class that was really fun.

This week was a super short week because of July 4th, and I'm SO thankful because I'm exhausted. To be honest, my sleep schedule is not the best and I definitely need to improve my water intake on a daily basis, and that's probably has alot to do with my tiredness as well. So note to self: I need to take care of myself more.

Project 3 summary

Speaking of project 3, ours was geared towards redesigning the website for Atlanta Botanical Gardens and making it mobile responsive. We all chipped in to handle different parts of the project, but a few of my main responsibilities were to put together our presentation and handle the mockups.

The cover page for our presentation and one of our personas for the project.

Our completed mockups of our redesign.

Moving on to project 4

So now we've moving on to project 4 which is putting together our portfolio. One of the biggest parts of the process that we've talked about is storytelling, and I've been told by my classmates that I'm a natural storyteller which of course makes me happy.

Maybe all this blogging I do helps, huh? Not to mention the storytelling aspect of photography, too. Either way, hopefully this helps me put together a solid portfolio that will get me hired after I've completed this course. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

We're also working on putting together case studies for our portfolio which put me in mind of the lab reports I had to do in organic chemistry in college. Basically we have to outline the purpose of our project, who was involved, what tools were used, the entire process, what the findings were, etc.

It's so cool to see so many parallels between my former life (what I like to call my past career lol) and the one I'm currently pursuing that I had no idea even existed. Being able to make these connections definitely make me feel like I'm not necessarily starting from square 1 with everything, and that's comforting.

Next steps:

(See what I did there?)

  • I definitely want to update this blog more on the upcoming weeks, so I'm feeling like I need to set a schedule for myself to type up and publish posts

  • I need to find at least 2 meetups to attend within the next 3 weeks. Since I'm typing it here I will now be held accountable for actually making this happen.

  • I need to get my life together in terms of my sleeping and hydration. Please stand by for updates.
